Using filters in Excel makes you able to perform multiple tasks smoothly. The filtering option is helpful in many functions such as you can remove the selected data, or you can even add some new data to the existing worksheet. Sometimes, your data has entries that needed modifications and you can’t manage it due to its length. Manually, you will not be able to do it because larger datasets always take the time that’s why you have to find some other ways.

Sometimes the rows contain database entries, whereas columns use headers. Filtering data makes you able enough to find and report a subset of the data.

For this, hit the Filter button placed in the ribbon toolbar tab Subset.

Once you press the button, on the Sidebar you will see the Filter function. Click on it and multiple options will appear. In these options, there is just one adjustable parameter called Conditions. Using this parameter, you can explain a function used to filter data.

The above example uses a common filter for the dataset. The “ELEV > 1000” formula is in the table records that have the value of the ELEV that is more than 1000.

For better understanding, we have another example in which we tend to make a complicated filter type. We tend to select records when the value of the ELEV is more than 1000 and the variable type is equal to the string “ sutinovy”.

Don’t worry about the filters, you can refill them. In the following example, you will see the records have an “enec” string given in the LOCALITY variable.

When it comes to explaining filters, you are free to use any combination of two conditions. In that case, below we have the formula to be added:

(filter_1 AND filter_2) OR (filter_3 AND filter_4)

Other than simple filters, you can even use summary filters. These filters tend to be used for functions such as Sum, Min, Max, Avg, or StDev. Below you will find the procedure of the Avg summary function.

Talking about Sum functions, you can apply them to the groups of records used in the dataset. Always consider making groups in the data. Using the Group function, we tend to make sub-tables. it is up to you to choose one or more variables in the Group properties.

Filter functions are applied to the grouped sets. A filter that uses the sum function Avg is helpful in Conditions. If the dataset is grouped separately, then the Avg formula will be in the line of separate calculating.
